The ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5 takes a practical route through the Chromebook category: a 15.6-inch FHD touchscreen, Chrome OS and a broad set of physical connections. That combination gives it a clear identity as a large-format Chrome OS computer for buyers who value workspace and flexibility more than compact dimensions.
The display is a central part of the proposition. Its 1920 x 1080 resolution should provide a suitable desktop canvas for Chrome OS, while the touch capability adds a direct interaction option. The LED-backlit panel is glossy, however, so reflections remain a confirmed physical consideration when the surrounding environment is bright. The 15.6-inch size also makes the machine’s priorities clear: it offers generous screen real estate, but its format is not centred on the smallest possible display footprint.
Hardware and connections
Processor choice is between the Intel Core i3-1115G4 and Intel Core i5-1135G7, with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of NVMe PCIe 3.0 SSD storage. Those configurations provide a defined set of options within the same Chrome OS design. The NVMe PCIe 3.0 drive type gives the storage specification a modern technical foundation, while the two capacities allow buyers to select between a smaller or larger built-in storage arrangement.
Graphics are supplied by Intel Iris Xe Graphics or Intel UHD Graphics, depending on the processor configuration. This is an integrated graphics platform, so the CX5’s hardware identity is built around the processor’s onboard graphics rather than a separately listed graphics component. That is an important trade-off to understand for buyers assessing the machine primarily as a general Chrome OS computer.
Connectivity is one of the strongest parts of the specification. Two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports support display and power delivery, alongside a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port. HDMI 2.0a provides a dedicated display connection, while the microSD card reader adds a straightforward route for removable storage. A 3.5mm combo audio jack is also included, keeping wired audio within the port selection rather than requiring an adapter.
Buyer fit and verdict
Wireless provision is similarly current on paper, with Wi-Fi 6 using dual-band 2x2 connectivity and Bluetooth 5.2. The 57Wh battery capacity establishes a substantial hardware component, although capacity alone does not determine runtime. Chrome OS keeps the software platform clearly defined, and the 8GB memory configuration gives the CX5 a straightforward specification for everyday Chrome OS use.
